Sitting down to a sewing machine for the first time since 2005 was a little scary. Reacquainting myself with the parts of the machine, basic sewing principles, fabric naps.. well, thank you YouTube!
I MISS SEWING!! A couple of years ago I loaned my machine to Brandlyn and she was/is having so much fun with it - I couldn't ask for it back. I thought about sewing frequently, but I never took the steps to begin again.
During this past summer my Sunday Bible study class was reading a book titled the "Prayer of Jabez." The author, Bruce Wilkerson talks about "unclaimed blessings" and how "God's bounty is limited only by us, not by God's resources, power, or His willingness to give."
A lively discussion began and as many do, ran down a rabbit trail that led to a question posed by another that truly resonated with me; "as Christians, are we doing what we enjoy along with serving God?"
Easy answer for me, "no." My life is out of balance.
Next step, I made a list of all the things I enjoy and sewing was at the top! It didn't take long to find a replacement machine on CraigsList and I knew my first project would be a baby quilt for the sweet couple in my class who recently became grandparents for the first time!
I love the benefits of living life with a small group of people who meet regularly and intimately share how God works in their life. The Prayer of Jabez is a beautiful portrait of how God desires believers to live an extraordinary life and beyond the limits of our imagination. This is a short little book packed with wisdom! Chapters: Little Prayer, Giant Prize - So Why Not Ask? - Living Large for God - The Touch of Greatness - Keeping the Legacy Safe - Welcome to God's Honor Roll - and, Making Jabez Mine.
And back to this quilt - I am excited to try a few variations - it was easy, quick, and super soft and cuddly! But first, I need to get started on Devan and Caitlin's Wedding Quilt! ;)
